Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel.
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
"The days are coming," declares the LORD, "when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land… This is the name by which he will be called: The LORD Our Righteous Savior."
A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him— the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might…
…A Star will come out of Jacob; A Scepter will rise out of Israel…
“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.”
…Out of Egypt I called my son.
This is what the Lord says: "A voice is heard in Ramah, mourning and great weeping, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more."
A voice of one calling: “In the wilderness prepare the way for the LORD ; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. And the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all people will see it together...”
“I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me..." Says the LORD Almighty.
Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him…
… “Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,“ says the LORD Almighty. But who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire…
“Zeal for your house will consume me.”
I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you…
The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor…
…In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the nations, by the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan— The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.
Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering…
“Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will bring justice to the nations. He will not shout or cry out, or raise his voice in the streets. A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out. In faithfulness he will bring forth justice; he will not falter or be discouraged till he establishes justice on earth. In his teaching the islands will put their hope.”
Say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear; your God will come,…” Then will the eyes of the blind be opened And the ears of the deaf unstopped. Then will the lame leap like a deer and the mute tongue shout for joy…
The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor…
I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me…
I am a foreigner to my own family, a stranger to my own mother’s children;
He said, “Go and tell this people: ‘Be ever hearing, but never understanding; be ever seeing, but never perceiving.’ Make the heart of this people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.”
I will open my mouth with a parable; I will utter hidden things, things from of old—
“The Lord says: ‘These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught.’”
God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” …”This is my name forever, the name you shall call me from generation to generation.”
Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
This is the gate of the LORD through which the righteous may enter. …You have become my salvation. The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; the LORD has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes.
The LORD says to my lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”
Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?
Make the heart of this people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.
…I will put my Words in his mouth. He will tell them everything I command him.
“The days are coming”, declares the LORD, “when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and with the people of Judah.”
“I … will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles.”
…he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors…
“This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the LORD. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts…”
Those who hate me without reason outnumber the hairs of my head; many are my enemies without cause…
…“Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered,..”
“Go down to the potter’s house, and there I will give you my message.”… For they have forsaken me… and they have filled this place with the blood of the innocent.
And the LORD said to me, “Throw it to the potter" -- the handsome price at which they valued me! So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them to the potter at the house of the LORD.
He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.
He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering and familiar with pain…
I offered my back to those who beat me…I did not hide my face from mocking and spitting.
…They will strike Israel’s ruler on the cheek with a rod.
…He poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many and made intercession for the transgressors.
They divide my clothes among them, and cast lots for my garment.
All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads: “He trusts in the LORD,” they say, “let the LORD rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him."
“In that day,” declares the Sovereign LORD, “I will make the sun go down at noon and darken the earth in broad daylight. I will turn your religious festivals into mourning and all your singing into weeping… I will make that time like mourning for an only son and the end of it like a bitter day.”
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from my cries of anguish?
…All my bones are out of joint… My mouth is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; you lay me in the dust of death. Dogs surround me; a pack of villains encircles me; they pierce my hands and my feet. All my bones are on display; people stare and gloat over me.
They … gave me vinegar for my thirst.
Into your hands I commit my spirit: deliver me, LORD, my faithful God.
Just as there were many who were appalled at him – his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any human being and his form marred beyond human likeness – so he will sprinkle many nations, and kings will shut their mouths because of him. For… they will see, and… they will understand.
Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities: the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
He protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken.
…They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child…
He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth.
After he has suffered, he will see the light of life… …He will be raised and lifted up and highly exalted.
“In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven… He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him…”
